Participants must be US citizens or Permanent Resident Aliens (PRA) and have completed and submitted an application.
Designed for young scientists eager to learn more about the world around them, these programs are set within the Lab’s Science Learning Center, a space filled with hands-on science exhibits. Each program is designed to inspire students by making real-life connections to a variety of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics themes.
Provides a glimpse at today’s most promising alternative sources of energy. Students will participate in fun hands-on science experiments to discover how weather affects solar panels and how biodiesel can power our cars. See firsthand where world-class scientists work and develop new technologies right here on Long Island.
Gives students an authentic research experience in genetics. Students will extract and amplify dragonfly DNA. Using special software, students will examine the DNA sequences and determine the family tree of their specimens.
Introduces students to the cutting-edge breakthroughs in engineering. Through structural design, nanotechnology, and magnetism experiments, students learn how scientists and engineers at the Lab are working to solve some of our world’s most important problems.
Alternative Energy Sources: August 19-23, 2013
Cutting-Edge Engineering: August 5-9, 2013
Molecular Ecology and Evolution of Dragonflies: July 22-26, 2013
Each program is limited to a maximum of 24 students.
Each program is offered Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. and costs $300.
To apply for these programs please complete the online application located on the
Long Island STEM Hub website.
The LI Regional STEM Hub, the third of ten forming in the Empire State STEM Learning Network, focuses on preparing students for the Long
Island workforce through enhanced science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) experiences for students and teachers.
