Teacher Professional Development Programs
Teachers are invited to participate in professional development workshops listed below or can choose from one of our student programs to gain content knowledge while observing students actively engaged in a variety of STEM-based hands-on activities.
Molecular Ecology and Evolution of the Southern Flying Squirrel
This course is intended to provide hands-on STEM training in both the field and laboratory and act as a mechanism to develop a course lesson based on the Common Core.
- June 24-27: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- Monday – Thursday, times may vary due to field work
- Cost:$300
- Eligibility: US citizen or Permanent Resident Alien (PRA)

SOAR: Aeronautical Engineering for K-6: Alignment to the Common Core
Participants will be introduced to elementary physics related to flight, propelled and un-propelled. All participants will receive a complete set of workshop materials including PowerPoint presentations and design templates
- July 29-Aug 2: Monday-Friday, 9:00-3:00 p.m., Wed. 8:00-4:00 p.m.
- Cost:$250
- Eligibility: US citizen or Permanent Resident Alien (PRA)

Portal to Discovery Teacher Fellowship Program
The goal of this program is to provide teachers from underrepresented minority serving districts in Nassau and Suffolk counties with real world experience with the Long Island STEM-Hub Regional Industry Council (RIC) partners. Teachers will work with a STEM- Hub RIC partner on research or technical projects to be integrated into their classroom and school community.
- This is a four week program and teachers must commit to work throughout the duration of the fellowship.
- Application Deadline: May 15, 2013.
- Stipend: Teachers will receive $500 per week.
