Defibrillator Unitsat BrookhavenBrookhaven National Laboratory is showing its commitment to saving lives by implementing and maintaining a public access defibrillator (PAD) program. This program strategically places Automated External Defibrillators (AED) throughout various location at the Laboratory complex. Most of these are based upon the public occupancy that these buildings experience. Others are placed because of the leadership role of those departments has seen the value of these units for their workers. Sudden Cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in the US, claiming approximately 250,000 lives annually. The American Heart Association estimates that more than 50,000 lives could have been saved if life-saving AEDs were made more widely available at the time of the emergency. An AED is a small, portable, user-friendly device that analyzes the heart rhythm and, if necessary, delivers a shock to restore an effective heart beat. If you would like information about the BNL standard AED, contact the BNL Fire Chief (chief@bnl.gov).
Note: Maps for AED locations are accessed by clicking on the building number and is available internally to BNL only. Other Defibrillator InformationLast Modified: June 2, 2008 |
