Basic Environmental Science Issues for D&D, Restoration and Long-Term Stewardship

At WM'04, the 30th Annual Waste Management Symposium, we organized a special session to address Basic Environmental Science Issues for D&D, Restoration and Long-Term Stewardship. This session will include presentations on fundamental research funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science focused on developing a molecular-level understanding of the physical, chemical and biological processes that underlie the most critical environmental issues facing the U.S. Department of Energy. The intent is to highlight the role of science in developing new technologies for the cleanup and for technology end-users to learn about what new science is being explored that can be applied to solving cleanup challenges. Session participants will include both DOE site managers that have benefited from science contributions and scientists engaged in relevant research and development.

The conference will be held in Tucson, Arizona at the Tucson Convention Center from February 29 – March 4, 2004. A copy of the preliminary program can be obtained at: http://www.wmsym.org/wmsym/pdf/WM04_Prelim_Program_web.pdf

Basic Environmental Science Issues for D&D, Restoration and Long-Term Stewardship is Session 19 on Tuesday morning (8:30 am) and is listed on page 45- 46 of the program.

Additional information about the conference can be found at http://www.wmsym.org.
