Operable Unit I

Record of Decision: Operable Unit I and Radiologically Contaminated Soils

This report details the selected remedy for Operable Unit I and related areas of concern: large-scale excavation of contaminated soils for off-site disposal. This report also addresses several areas of concern and completed removal actions.

Operable Unit I: Final Feasibility Study Report
Operable Unit I: Proposed Plan

The Feasibility Study Report describes and evaluates cleanup alternatives for the contaminants. Six alternatives were evaluated for radiologically contaminated soils. Additional cleanup options were examined for other areas of concern within Operable Unit I.

Following the evaluation process, the preferred cleanup alternatives were selected and are detailed in the Proposed Plan. The Proposed Plan also describes cleanup actions already taken.

Operable Unit II/VII

Action Memorandum: Brookhaven Linac Isotope Producer Removal Action
(entered into Administrative Record 4/26/00)

This report describes the selected remedy for an area of contaminated soil underneath the Brookhaven Linac Isotope Producer, or BLIP. Soil activation products in this area have the potential to impact on-site groundwater. The selected remedy involves maintenance of a cap already in place above the contaminated soils and injection of a silicon grout to encapsulate the soils.
