Fire Management

Brookhaven National Laboratory

Brookhaven National Laboratory has developed a comprehensive Wildland Fire Management Plan to provide background, guidelines, standards, and recommendations when dealing with natural fires, human-caused accidental fires, and prescribed fires.  In 2004, BNL started using prescribed fire as a natural resource management tool during the New York State Wildfire and Incident Management Academy.  Burns were successfully completed in 2004 and 2006.  The Prescribed Fire Plan states the conditions on when a prescribed burn can and cannot occur.  Burns were not completed in 2005, 2007, and 2008 due to weather conditions.
