This subject area addresses face and capture velocity of fume hoods,
local exhaust, and general ventilation for confined spaces. For
ventilation concerns of your overall work area please see the
Indoor Air Quality
Subject Area.
Ventilation such as fume hoods, local exhaust and ventilation are
used throughout the laboratory for removal of airborne contaminants
from the workers breathing zone. Common uses are in exhaust hoods to
ensure that chemical mists, vapors and aerosols do not come in
contact with the worker. Their use can be required as part of the
Work Controls instituted during an experimental or work review.
