Nuclear Energy & Infrastructure Systems Division

Organization

The Nuclear Energy and Infrastructure Systems Division is divided into three groups:

The Systems Engineering and Safety Analysis Group has programs and projects in engineering techniques and applications related to risk-informed inspections, fire safety analyses, and human factors research (including that related to control room design). It also develops new and innovative techniques and energy-related devices for the private sector that address complex industrial problems.

The Engineering Mechanics and Infrastructure Group does aging analyses of components and structures, structural and seismic engineering, vulnerability assessments of structures, cable qualification and testing, electric power system analysis, work associated with NPP license renewals and design certification applications, as well as research related to transportation and infrastructures. The Group operates an experimental facility, the Electric Component Test Facility.

The Reactor Analysis Group does neutronic/thermal-hydraulic analysis of power and research reactors, provides project management to NRC programs in Russia and Ukraine, and carries out expert elicitations for the NRC. It also does experimental work in proton radiography.
