"Lattice Effective Field Theory for Nuclei"

I discuss recent results obtained using lattice effective field theory to probe nuclear structure. In particular I present new results relating to the Hoyle state of carbon-12 and the question of whether the light quark mass must be fine-tuned for the viability of carbon-based life. I also discuss some promising results for the calculation of scattering amplitudes and nuclear capture reactions.
