Energy production and storage are key issues associate with our welfare in daily life. Present challenges for battery technologies are: 1) the increasing demand for powering systems of portable electronic devices and zero-emission vehicles stimulates research towards high energy and high voltage systems; 2) low cost batteries are required in order to advance towards smart electric grids that integrate discontinuous energy flow from renewable sources, optimizing the performance of clean energy sources. This presentation will be based on my previous R&D experiences towards the development high energy, low cost battery technologies with Li-ion, Na-ion, K-ion, Ca-ion and Mg-ion chemistries, including both ambient temperature and high temperature energy storage systems. The presentation will mainly focus on the battery chemistries development. With one technology, the development processes from a lab experimental result to a manufacture pilot will be presented.
