"Towards Real Dream Beams: Key Physics of the Blowout Regime of Wakefield Acceleration and Recent Research Activities at L2PA of Tsinghua University"

The field of plasma accelerators, based on laser or charged particle beam-driven wakefields, has experienced significant progress worldwide in the past decade, with promises to downsize the large scale accelerators and light sources by factor of hundreds to thousands. The so-called Blowout Regime for wakefield acceleration has played a very important role for these developments. In the first half of this talk, I will focus on the important physics of this special regime and show why it is a great choice for accelerating high quality electron beams. In the second half, the recent progress made in my research group (L2PA), at Tsinghua University, will be presented. The focus of our research at L2PA is mainly on generating high quality beams with parameters comparable, or even much better than, what can be achieved by the best technology today. Some ideas on how this can be done will be discussed in details.
