Worldwide, there are currently two facilities being built that are practically trying to sound the possibilities and challenges of building the world's brightest light source: The NSLS-II and MAX IV. We are very happy to get the opportunity to be guests in Brookhaven and to learn and exchange ideas between these two siblings. The MAX IV project in Lund, Sweden has just passed about half-time into completion of its initial package of accelerators and seven beamlines. We will give an overview about the facility, its three accelerators â€" a 3.4 GeV Linac acting as full energy injector and driving a short pulse facility, a 1.5 GeV ring and the ultra-low-emittance 3 GeV ring â€" and the currently funded beamline projects. We will present the current status of the project and give an overview about the project organization with focus on the beamline projects.
