Humans consume approximately 16 TW of power, generated mainly from burning of fossil fuels. This leads to a significant change in the composition of our planet's atmosphere and global warming due to this human activity. I will discuss the impact that alternative and renewable energy and power sources can have on slowing down global warming and the associated ocean acidification, sea-level rise, and other environmental impacts. In particular I will concentrate on biomass-based approaches.
