The BERA Asian Pacific American Association (APAA) invites all to attend the Award Ceremony for the 9th annual Dr. Mow Shiah Lin Scholarship. The award of $1,000 will be presented to Ms. Jo-Ann Jee, a graduate student at the Stony Brook University Department of Chemistry studying for a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Ms. Jee's study focuses on the development of a general synthetic approach to the synthesis of surface-multiblock dendrimers via the Passerini reaction with the goal of applying this technology to the creation of a well-defined, dendrimeric, targeted vehicle for drug delivery. The APAA established the Dr. Mow Shiah Lin Scholarship to commemorate the life and career of Dr. Lin, who was a distinguished scientist at the Energy Sciences and Technology Department. In honor of Dr. Lin's research, remarkable achievements, and inventions, this scholarship is granted annually to a student of Asian heritage with a U.S. student visa matriculating toward a doctorate in Environmental & Energy Technology, Biology, or Chemistry at an accredited institution of higher education on Long Island, including Brooklyn and Queens, in remembrance of the manner in which Dr. Lin began his career. Ms. Jee will be introduced by her advisor, Dr. Jonathan G. Rudick, followed by a brief overview of her current research. The ceremony will be held on Thursday, September 26th at 4:00 p.m., at the Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) 2nd floor Seminar Room, Bldg. 735. Refreshments will follow the presentation.
