"Proof of Principle Double Quarter Wave Crab Cavity and Path to Beam Loaded Test"

"One of the luminosity upgrade options of LHC consists in the vertical and horizontal crabbing of the beams. To do this, a Proof-of-Principle (PoP) superconducting RF Double Quarter Wave Crab Cavity (DQWCC) has been designed by BNL and CERN. The prototype was fabricated by Niowave, Inc. After the surface treatments at Niowave, BNL and ANL, this cavity was tested in the vertical cryogenic test facility at BNL. The cavity achieved 4.5 MV deflecting voltage with a quality factor above 3Ã–10^9. In this talk we present the design, fabrication, treatment, test results of this design and the analysis of the results. The preliminary designs including the cavity, higher order mode (HOM) filter, tuner, helium vessel and cryomodule for the test with beam in the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) of CERN will also be presented."
