"Tracking orbits in the electrostatic storage ring proposed for the Proton Electric Dipole Moment experiment can be done with the Leapfrog formalism first proposed by astronomers of the '70 and then revised in some form by Ron Ruth for particle accelerators. It is a kick formalism to numerically integrate the Lorentz Equation of motion of particles in an electromagnetic field. The formalism is perfectly symplectic and very fast, so well suited for tracking over billion of turns in a storage ring. It also gives the basics for some symplectic integration algorithms. The Spink formalism to propagate spin is also a kick formalism, therefore matches naturally well with leapfrog for spin tracking. Coupled with MAD, Leapfrog can be used to design electrostatic, other than magnetic lattices."
