"Much of cyclotron technology is quite mature, with well-established applications and a solid industrial base of manufacturers and suppliers. There is always, however, room for new developments. While most of the time with mature technology such developments are evolutionary, the applications we seek require revolutionary improvements in beam current performance. Yet, very strong arguments are made that the goals set are feasible, and indeed actually reasonable. This talk will discuss the neutrino-physics applications setting the requirements (and touch on other potential applications), list the challenges we have identified for meeting the beam currents required, and outline the strategy for addressing them. We have developed a roadmap, and are making good progress along it, with plans taking shape for developments that may lead to deployment of a first prototype."
