Red Hat Network Satellite Service

ITD has procured a number of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) licenses for Workstation 3 (WS3), Workstation 4 (WS4) and RHEL 5 Client.  These license are available to the BNL Linux community

Additionally, UNIX Services has deployed a Red Hat Network (RHN) Satellite Server.  RHN is an automated software update service for RHEL system.  This service provides your RHEL system with software updates that will reduce system administration load and ensure your machine is always running the latest system software with the most current security updates.  Installing these updates will ensure that your machine is less vulnerable to break-ins and resulting disruptions of service.

The Satellite server complements RHEL by providing access to administrative functions such as patch level, package and configuration management.  The RHN Satellite server can also help eliminate repetitive system administration tasks, since groups of machines can be managed as easily as individual machines.
