Unix ServicesWiki SupportWhat is a Wiki? A wiki is a special kind of website that built around collaborative design. Web pages on a wiki-powered website usually have an "edit" button or link, which gives authorized users the ability to make changes. MediaWiki is one of many software systems that can be used to power wiki sites. MediaWiki is most well known as the software behind Wikipedia. What does "Wiki" mean? "Wiki" (English pronunciation: /wi:ki:/) is a Hawaiian word for "fast". Currently, all collaboration wikis are hosted on an ITD wiki server called "wiki.bnl.gov". Mediawiki is used to power these wiki sites. ITD continually keeps this server up to date and patched, which is the main benefit to have ITD host all your wiki applications.
To reach ITD Unix Services for any support issues, please contact the ITD Helpdesk via email (itdhelp@bnl.gov) or call x5522. In any communications, please include the name of the machine(s) in question, as well as their operating system, software package and other relevant information which will allow ITD to help you more effectively. |
