Security Operations

Mission Statement:
To protect DOE special nuclear materials, classified matter, sensitive information, and certain sensitive property against theft, diversion, or destruction; to prevent the sabotage of programs that could result in significant scientific or financial impact; to prevent the malevolent release of hazardous materials including radiological, chemical, and infectious agents or other criminal acts that would endanger employees, the public, and the environment.

Vision Statement:
The vision of Security Operations is to continually improve in providing the Laboratory with security services in key program areas, which are efficient, cost effective, and serve the best interests of our customers and stakeholders. This is accomplished with a well trained and dedicated professional staff who strive to protect our classified information from potential loss, or compromise that could help aid our adversaries.

One of ten national laboratories overseen and primarily funded by the Office of Science of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Brookhaven National Laboratory conducts research in the physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences, as well as in energy technologies and national security. Brookhaven Lab also builds and operates major scientific facilities available to university, industry and government researchers. Brookhaven is operated and managed for DOE's Office of Science by Brookhaven Science Associates, a limited-liability company founded by the Research Foundation for the State University of New York on behalf of Stony Brook University, the largest academic user of Laboratory facilities, and Battelle, a nonprofit, applied science and technology organization.
