Scope

Contributions are invited on all aspects of magnetic measurements. Examples of topics to be covered at the workshop include:

Presentation format

All contributions will be presented in oral sessions. There will be no parallel sessions. Speakers should indicate the amount of time needed. Most talks are expected to be about 15 min. long, followed by 5 min. for discussions, although some exceptions are not ruled out. An overhead projector and a projector connected to a notebook computer will be provided. Presentations prepared in PowerPoint can be displayed using this computer. For other software, the speakers may bring their own notebook computer. Requests for any other audio-visual aid should be made well in advance to the workshop secretary, Ms. Diana Votruba (Phone:1-516-344-5123; Fax:1-516-344-2190). Such requests will be accommodated to the extent possible.

Proceedings

Proceedings of the magnet measurement workshops have traditionally contained photocopies of transparencies shown. The usefulness of the proceedings can be considerably enhanced if the contributions have at least some descriptive text to accompany the figures. While we do not expect speakers to write formal papers in a well defined format, we do suggest that contributors try to incorporate some commentary in their submissions for the proceedings. With this in mind, all speakers are encouraged to submit a "proceedings version" of their talk. In most cases, speakers could prepare a "proceedings version" by just adding a few sentences to describe each figure. At the other extreme, the speakers are free to write a reasonable length regular paper, provided the paper does not deviate significantly from what was actually presented.

In addition to a paper copy of the "proceedings version", contributors are also encouraged to submit an electronic version. The electronic version should be in the postscript format. In addition, the source file (Word document, PowerPoint file, etc.) should also be submitted. If most of the submissions are received in electronic format, a CD-ROM version of the proceedings will be considered.

To facilitate handling of different paper sizes, all printable material must be contained in a 170 mm ´ 241 mm rectangle. The left margin should be 20 mm and the bottom margin should be 19 mm for both A4 and US letter sizes. The right and the top margins should be adjusted to obtain the desired print area of 170 mm ´ 241 mm. Please note that this requirement is consistent with the format for the proceedings of PAC and EPAC.

Ftp your documents to magnets.rhic.bnl.gov using the username and password which has been e-mailed to all registered participants. Once connected "cd" to the IMMWXI directory ("cd immwxi") and transfer your files there. We suggest filenames using the first 3 letters of the primary author's last name plus two digits (ie MCC01, MCC02, etc). You do not have permission to delete or overwrite any files in the IMMWXI directory, so if you need to update a file contact David McChesney

Deadlines

Although some presentations may be scheduled during the workshop itself, all prospective participants are requested to submit a title and a brief description of their planned presentations in order to facilitate putting together a draft agenda. The contributions should be sent by e-mail to the program committee chair, Dr. Animesh Jain (Phone: 1-516-344-7329; Fax: 1-516-344-2190), by August 25, 1999. The e-mail should include an estimate of time needed, a list of co-authors and their affiliation(s).

A paper copy of the talk (preferably a "proceedings version") should be submitted at the workshop. The electronic version also could be submitted at the workshop. However, we strongly urge the participants to upload the electronic version as early as possible so that any potential problems could be resolved during the workshop itself. Detailed instructions on uploading files are listed above and have been e-mailed to all registered participants.
