MAGNETS FOR A VERY LARGE HADRON COLLIDER
November 16-18, 1998
Danfords, Port Jefferson, Long Island, NY
The workshop will follow the Charge from the VLHC
Steering Committee:
| Guided by the Snowmass '96 parameter sets, explore and
develop innovative concepts that will result in significant cost reductions.
Coordinate parameter sets, infrastructure requirements for the various options, and
designs with the other working groups. Review progress in magnet R&D (include materials and may include cryogenics, vacuum). Develop bases including costs for comparing different magnet designs. Monitor, encourage, and coordinate progress in materials development both in academe and industry. A particularly important goal of the workshop is to
identify high-payoff topics for vlhc magnet R&D (including SBIR's and CRADA's).
To accomplish this in the time available, the workshop topics have been limited to those
most directly concerned with the magnets. |
Workshop presentations and discussions will take place
Monday afternoon and Tuesday. Wednesday morning, the session organizers will
summarize the discussions, including the R&D topics that seemed most promising.

WORKSHOP PROCEEDINGS Contributions will be posted as .pdf files on the Web. (There will not be a paper version of the Proceedings.) Contributions will be accepted in any form, although there is a preference for the familiar format of the Particle Accelerator Conference. The easiest file types to work with are .ps and .pdf. To help avoid errors, we are asking for both a hard copy and an electronic version of contributions. We will be able to make copies of transparencies at the meeting. Electronic contributions may be submitted via FTP to "magnets.rhic.bnl.gov" (login as anonymous; enter your email address as the password) or on floppies. [Comments or problems with FTP should be sent to David McChesney, mcchesne@bnl.gov]. When the Proceedings are available, the link to their Web site will be at http://www.rhichome.bnl.gov/FHC/ and http://vlhc.org. |
