Figure 1:   Radiation-induced apoptosis of an endothelial cell in the adult mouse brain.   In this histological section a red staining cell body (indicating an endothelial cell) co-localized with a brown staining nucleus (indicating apoptotic death) at 12 hours after irradiation.  The amount of apoptosis is reduced 2-4 fold by pretreatment with bFGF.
