2008 NASA Space Radiation Summer School (NSRSS) Participants:

Steps to Complete before Summer School Starts

Step #1:  BNL Registration
If you hold a valid BNL ID card, Step 1 is not required. If you have an expired BNL ID, you will need to contact the Guest, User, Visitor Center at (guvcenter@bnl.gov) for instructions.

All students who do not hold a BNL ID card MUST register on the web at Brookhaven National Laboratory Guest Registration Form as soon as possible. This approval process takes some time, so please complete this step right away. You will receive a temporary registration number via e-mail from BNL when you submit your registration form.  After your BNL application receives final approval, you will be issued a BNL Guest Number.  Please forward your guest number to kellierogers@dsls.usra.edu when you receive it from BNL.  Please review this 2008 document for details that need to be entered in a specific way on the BNL Guest Registration Form.

Note:  All selected students, auditors and alternates were previously asked to initiate this process.  If you have already received a temporary registration or guest number from the BNL Guest, User, Visitor Center, then you have finished this step and do not need to resubmit a guest registration.

Step #2:  Arrival Notification
You should plan to arrive at BNL on Wednesday, May 28 and depart on Saturday, June 21.  Once you have made your travel arrangements you should notify Universities Space Research Association (USRA) via e-mail to kellierogers@dsls.usra.edu.  You should also notify Brookhaven online of your actual arrival and anticipated departure dates utilizing your official BNL GUEST NUMBER (the BNL Temporary Registration Number will not work for this process).

Step #3:  Training
Online Training should be completed prior to arrival at BNL (classroom courses will be scheduled if necessary).  The following online courses are required for all students.  They are available using the following direct links:

Bloodborne Pathogens AwarenessNSRSS participants are no longer required to complete this training for the 2007 program (5/3/07)

These courses are also available online through the BNL User Training Center.

Step #4:  Identification
It critical that you have appropriate identification documents with you when you arrive at Brookhaven.   Details can be found at the Visitors Guide to Brookhaven site.  Note: Failure to bring the proper documentation could result in being denied access on to BNL property.

Step #5: Pick Up Room Key
Keys may be picked up at the Housing Office located in Building 400, Research Support Building (RSB), 20 Brookhaven Avenue, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and midnight. During other times, keys may be picked up at Police Headquarters, Building 50. Locate Building 50 on the BNL central campus map

Specific details on ground transportation, exactly what to do/where to go when you arrive at BNL, and general information about life at BNL will be e-mailed to you about two weeks before the course begins so you will have all that you need in plenty of time.  If you have any questions in the meantime, please call Kellie Rogers with Universities Space Research Association (USRA) at 281-244-2011 or send an e-mail to kellierogers@dsls.usra.edu.
