EASTERN LONG-ISLAND

  • The Psychological Center at Stony Brook University is open to any Long Island adult, child, or family seeking help with emotional, behavioral, educational, or work related problems. The Center also has a program of psychological testing and evaluation for those who have concerns about school placement, learning disabilities, vocational choice or academic achievement.  The Psychological Center is a non-profit organization.  Fees are as low as possible and are adjusted to family income.  Therapy is often covered by personal or employer's insurance.

  • The Neuropsychology Service at Stony Brook University Medical Center offers comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. The staff consists of two full-time neuropsychologists with practices that specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of cognitive disorders (e.g. ADHD, Learning Disabilities, epilepsy, brain injury, dementias and other medical conditions that affect cognition).  We also provide educational and psychosocial support for school-age children and adolescents, and transitional support for adults moving into college and the work force.  The service is run by Dr. Thomas Preston, a board certified neuropsychologist and Assistant Professor of Neurology at Stony Brook. Dr. Preston earned his PhD at Vanderbilt University, and completed his fellowship training at Yale University and the University of Rochester Medical Centers. He has practiced on Long Island for over ten years. Dr. Brian Lebowitz is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Stony Brook. He obtained his PhD at the University of Cincinnati, and completed neuropsychology fellowships at both Harvard Medical School and the Tampa VA hospital.

WESTERN LONG-ISLAND

  • Hillside Hospital Outpatient Services. There are outpatient services for all ages and both partial hospital or continuing day treatment programs. There is a program for chemical abusers and a special Center for Neuropsychiatric Outcomes and Rehabilitation. The hospital also uses the very latest virtual reality software to treat various phobic disorders, including fear of flying and heights.

  • Consumer Link includes current and former recipients of mental health services.  They provide a combination of direct concrete services, education, peer support opportunities, and active systems advocacy. Their peer-to-peer "warm line" offers consumers a chance to talk to other consumers about recovery, relationships or other personal issues.   Information and referral to other peer support services are provided.   • The Parallax Center will design a treatment program to meet your needs, whether this is your first treatment, or you have tried traditional programs which proved unable to fully assist you in your goals.     St. Barnabas Hospital Addiction Medicine

  • North Central Bronx Hospital provides Individual Group and Family Therapy. Patients are assessed and a plan of treatment is developed that includes type of treatment, frequency of visits and medication, if needed. Types of treatment include: brief and long-term individual psychotherapy, family and couple therapy, group therapy and medication management. Assessment and treatment are provided by psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers. Program is linked to other hospital services to ensure prompt patient access to required care.
