For the past 14 years, the NYWIMA has held classroom and field training on the Brookhaven site. In addition to the important benefits of hands-on training, the prescribed burn also helps to improve conditions for forest regeneration and reduce fuels that support catastrophic wildfires. Before conducting the burn, many requirements must be met, including specific weather conditions and safety preparations.
