What We Buy and Don’t Buy

What We Buy:

Brookhaven National Laboratory's major mission is science and research. We do NOT manufacture anything. We do, however, purchase a vast amount of products and/or services to run the Laboratory!

In addition to scientific instruments, environmental remediation, and waste treatment, we also buy products and or services like:

We presently have several small business suppliers for the above products and services.  We are not presently looking for new suppliers.  However, you are invited to register your business on our Self Registration Database at: http://www.bnl.gov/ppm/sbreg.asp

Construction Contracts:

You must first submit a pre-qualification proposal to be considered for any construction contracts.

Contractors must submit all of the following documentation for consideration:

a) Construction contractor Pre-Qualification Questionnaire
b) Contractor Safety Record
c) Asbestos Exclusion Certification
d) Classes of Work
e) Certifications and Representations

Once you have submitted these documents, your documentation will be reviewed by a selection panel, and if approved, you will be required to execute a Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) contract. For an individual construction project, each Contractor with whom the Laboratory has a BOA for that specific type of work will be asked to submit a lump-sum bid based on construction specifications and drawings. The Laboratory will then award a Task Agreement to the low bidder under their BOA.

What We Don’t Buy

We rarely buy items like:

• advertising & public relations services
• food
• illegal products & services
• insurance
• military products
• photography Services
• web design/hosting

Our Buyers WANT to buy from small businesses because:

• It helps BNL meet the prime contract small business goals with the Department of Energy,
• It helps the buyer meet his/her personal BNL goals, which are part of performance reviews.
• It helps grow our economy and it makes good business sense.
