Introduction to the...
Standards-Based Management System
The Standards-Based Management System covers the management of
requirements at Brookhaven Laboratory, and the delivery of implementation
methods for meeting those requirements.
The SBMS site publishes documents that show how BNL meets contract
requirements, DOE requirements, etc. We use a standard format, publishing
standards that comply with the Chicago Manual of Style, and quality
assurance processes to ensure that all documents meet quality expectations
and that content is properly integrated.
The SBMS site also has documents (such as the Supervisor's Personnel
Manual) that have been taken directly from the process owner (in this case,
HR) without being converted into Subject Areas. These documents have a blue
background.
Behind the scenes (for most staff, but very important to upper-level
management) is the Requirements Management aspect of the SBMS function. The
RM function keeps track of what requirements BNL is bound to comply with,
how BNL complies, and who (upper level manager) is responsible for the
requirement being met.
