Welcome to RHIC News

We hope that this web publication will in some small measure reflect the excitement of the RHIC and AGS program at Brookhaven, as explained by some of the people who are doing the experiments, analyzing the data, and writing the papers.

Precision Measurement of Run05 Proton Beam Polarization by Itaru Nakagawa
RHIC spin program has been studying the decomposition of nucleon spin in terms of the contributions from its constituents - quarks and gluons - using various observed asymmetries through polarized proton-proton collision process. All these asymmetry studies requires the knowledge of the beam polarization in order to interpret observed asymmetry with the spin structure of nucleon. Therefore the measurement of the beam polarization is a critical path.   More...

SivertzThe NASA Space Radiation Facility at BNL By Michael Sivertz
So you want to be an astronaut? Space flight can be dangerous, but not all dangers come in the form of large hungry aliens with a bad attitude. NASA is concerned about the amount of radiation that astronauts are exposed to in routine space flights. Radiation from cosmic rays can represent a significant risk to astronauts, depending on the duration of the flight and other factors.  More...

SemertzidisStorage Ring Electric Dipole Moments: The Case for a Deuteron EDM By Yannis Semertzidis
Even though the possession of a non-zero value of a magnetic dipole moment (MDM) by a fundamental particle is common place there is not a single case observed so far for the possession of an electric dipole moment (EDM). Such an observation would have a profound implication about our understanding of the universe because it would point to a new, large source of CP-violation (the combined charge (C) and parity (mirror reflection, P) symmetries); much bigger than what is allowed by the standard model (SM).  More...
