Open Forum Meeting

The main purpose of this meeting is to find out from you, the user, what are the most important concerns related to your work and your life at BNL. Members of the Users Executive Committee regularly are asked to convey your needs directly to representatives from BNL management, the DOE, and others who are in the best position to affect our experience both as scientists and as members of the BNL community. The best way for us to make sure that the needs of the users are accurately represented is for us to hear from you.

Date: June 23, 2005
Time: During lunch break*
Location: Berkner Hall
Suggested Topics:

UEC:  Past, Present, and Future -- Brant Johnson, BNL

A brief overview and perspective will be given of the history, current activities, and future plans for the RHIC & AGS Users' Executive Committee.  While quality of life issues for users - such as on-site housing, transportation, and site infrastructure are still very important - the focus of the UEC has shifted due to the changing climate of regulations, restrictions, and funding challenges.  The broad topic areas to be addressed in the talk are:  Brookhaven Site Access, Funding and Political Action, Meetings and Open Forums, and Quality of Life.  Feedback from the user community will be welcomed and encouraged.

What is HSPD-12? -- Tom Schlagel, BNL

Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 was issued by President Bush on August 2004 and specifies the use of a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) standard to grant access for federal employees and contractors to federally controlled facilities and computing resources. BNL and the UEC are seriously concerned about potential negative implications for user access to facilities such as RHIC & AGS.

And don't forget to bring your discussion items as well!

Chair: Mike Sivertz
