Motivations & Plans
In the past decade there has been a massive effort exerted toward the understanding of how properties of hadrons change in medium and toward determining the transport coefficients of strongly interacting matter. The former could yield important signatures of deconfinement and chiral symmetry restoration at high temperatures and densities, while the later are crucial for understanding the dynamics of ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions.
As the RHIC data are maturing and LHC data-taking will soon occur, it seems now is a good time to have this topical workshop and take stock of how far we have come. In medium properties of hadrons and transport coefficients are encoded in spectral functions.
This workshop will address different methods and approaches used to determine the spectral functions, as well as the implication of the results for the phenomenology describing matter created under extreme conditions.
