Sci-ED Day Workshop Letter

The Office of Educational Programs at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) would like to invite you to participate in our 9th annual Sci-Ed Day on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. Sci-Ed Day is a professional development event for all teachers to participate in a variety of workshops.  BNL offers this as a part of the Long Island STEM Hub Professional Development Day.

Workshop Details

Spend the day at Brookhaven National Laboratory where cutting-edge research abounds. Meet the scientists, see the facilities, and discover the latest and greatest scientific innovations. Learn how to engage students at every level by incorporating current research topics into your curriculum.

Educators will choose one workshop for the day that suits their grade level and/or interest. In addition to the workshops, participants have the opportunity to visit one of Brookhaven’s state of the art research facilities. Participants can make their tour selection during the morning registration on Tuesday, November 5. Tour space is limited and will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The workshop titles and grade levels are as follow:

The registration fee is $20 US per participant which includes continental breakfast and lunch. Participation certificates will be distributed at the conclusion of the event.

All registrants must bring a photo ID to enter the Main Gate at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Participants will meet in Berkner Hall. Directions will be given at the Main Gate. Berkner Hall is located on the corner of Brookhaven Avenue and Columbia St. Busses will transport participants to facilities tours and workshop locations. Note: This event falls under Exemption D. Formal classroom training held at Federal facilities, which does not exhibit indicia of a formal conference as outlined above.

The exception would include activities such as regular courses of instructions or training seminars at the National Center and the HAMMER training facility at Hanford, and regular courses of instruction or training seminars conducted by the office of Management for Acquisitions, workforce related to the core activities of the department.
