Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) is committed to providing funding for outreach initiatives in the local community and Long Island region. BSA allocates funds in support science and math education, for fundraising events for recognized organizations, and supports community, civic, cultural and public awareness activities.
Brookhaven Science Associates supports Long Island organizations that focus their efforts on a diverse population through the Lab’s Corporate Philanthropy Program. The organizations supported during 2013 include:
The United Way is supported through contributions from employees and from BSA. In 2012 the Laboratory raised a total of $202,228 from employee contributions and from special events that included contests and bake sales, breakfasts, luncheons, the holiday auction, a yard sale, a concert, and more. Under the Volunteer Work Program employees volunteered in many organizations that serve underrepresented Long Island communities including hospitals, nursing homes, and soup kitchens, or as scout leaders, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians. Brookhaven Science Associates offered a $10,000 donation, $20 per hour, in exchange for every hour employees volunteered their time at charities of their choice in their own neighborhood.
The Stakeholder Relations Office organizes employee-volunteer events throughout the year and assists Brookhaven Employee Recreational Association (BERA) Clubs with individual activities. Recent projects included:
