Dorene Price

Responsibilities

As Chief Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel reporting to the General Counsel, Dorene leads Brookhaven’s Intellectual Property Legal Group (IPLG) and is one of two full-time patent attorneys employed in IPLG.  Dorene oversees patent protection and assertions of copyright in fulfillment of the patent rights and data rights clauses of the contract between the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) in all scientific disciplines across the Laboratory.

Dorene joined the Laboratory in January, 2007 as a Patent Attorney and since October, 2009, she has served as Chief IP Counsel. She has handled responsibility for a wide variety of IP matters at the Laboratory. In particular, Dorene is involved in technology commercialization, user agreements, and research and subcontracting type agreements. Dorene also participates in Lab initiatives when IP matters are involved.

Dorene has a B.S. degree in chemistry, and received a M.S. degree in industrial engineering from Binghamton University of the State University of New York while working as a staff scientist with Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals.  After receiving her J.D. degree from Albany Law School, Dorene began in private practice at a law firm in Bloomfield Hills, MI, followed by in-house experience as a patent associate at Estee Lauder Companies, Inc. here on Long Island.
