The Institute for Advanced Electron Microscopy (IAEM) is currently under Brookhaven's BES Directorate, and is affiliated both with the Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) and Department of Condensed Matter Physics & Material Sciences (CMPMS). Our scientific research is funded by U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Basic Science and NY-STAR.

Two sub-groups are included. The "Core research group", being aligned with CMPMS, is focusing on performing cutting-edge basic scientific research in the field of transmission electron microscopy.  The "User support group", being aligned with CFN, is mainly involved in helping outside users to take full advantage of our open facilities to benefit their own research projects.
