Q: What is a Line-of-Balance?
A: The Line-of-Balance is a graphical depiction of the production status. "The Line" is the planned or scheduled production, plotted over time. The Actual Production is plotted on the same graph as "The Line." If the Actual Production is above "The Line," then production is ahead of schedule. Actual Production below "The Line," production is behind schedule. How much ahead or behind schedule can be determined by drawing a horizontal line from the end of the Actual Production line to the point at which it intersects "The Line." The length of the horizontal line is the time ahead or behind schedule.
