Welcome to the CFN Proposal System

The Center for Functional Nanomaterials, a user-oriented nanoscience research facility, is accepting new proposals for access to its instruments, techniques and skilled staff from researchers seeking to enhance their own research projects.

New proposals for the September-December 2015 cycle must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. eastern standard time on May 31, 2015.
Requests for additional facility time for the September-December 2015 cycle must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. eastern standard time on July 15, 2015.

The CFN cannot accommodate late submissions for New User Proposals or Requests for Additional Time.

If Users need prompt access to CFN to conduct time-critical, high-impact research, Users may submit Rapid Access Proposals outside the normal cycle submission deadlines. The guidelines for Rapid Access Proposals can be found here: http://www.bnl.gov/cfn/user.  Rapid Access Proposals can be submitted at any point during the year.

Prior to submission, prospective users are encouraged to contact CFN staff members to discuss their proposal ideas, to learn more about the specific capabilities of interest to them, and to ensure CFN has the appropriate facilities, equipment, and staff to perform the research requested. One of ten national laboratories overseen and primarily funded by the Office of Science of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Brookhaven National Laboratory conducts research in the physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences, as well as in energy technologies and national security. Brookhaven Lab also builds and operates major scientific facilities available to university, industry and government researchers. Brookhaven is operated and managed for DOE's Office of Science by Brookhaven Science Associates, a limited-liability company founded by Stony Brook University, the largest academic user of Laboratory facilities, and Battelle, a nonprofit, applied science and technology organization.
