The 2014 DOE Accelerator Safety Workshop (ASW) will be held at the DOE Germantown Campus on August 5-7, 2014. The intent is to share experience and gain consensus on how safety systems are efficiently applied to accelerator facilities. The workshop atmosphere is informal and open discussion is encouraged.
The DOE Accelerator Community has worked every year to encourage and improve communications across the DOE complex, especially across the DOE Accelerator Community. Improved communications has led to the development of a new Order (DOE 420.2C), development of a new Guide (DOE 420.2-2), and a Draft Technical Standard to address Clearance of Material from Accelerator Facilities.
In addition, recent operating experiences and lessons learned required a comprehensive look at the accelerator readiness review process. The September 2013 annual workshop was conducted as a video teleconference with an emphasis on improving readiness. This effort has proven to be very successful at the DOE Accelerator Facilities.
Over the course of the last few years, participants have had the opportunity to talk directly with DOE representatives responsible for Accelerator Safety, Science and NNSA Programs. This Workshop has grown over the years with participation by several safety functional areas and accelerator operations personnel. Sharing information and experiences in this way has resulted in safe and environmentally responsible accelerator operations.
Note 1: This Workshop falls under both exemption b (a meeting to discuss internal agency matters held in a federal facility), as well as exemption f (program/project review), and does not need to be reported in the conference management tool, or approved through the conference management system.
Note 2: Continuing Education Units (CEU's) have been requested from the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) and others. Attendance at the 2014 Accelerator Safety Workshop has been granted 15 CEC by ABHP and assigned ID 2014-08-001.
PowerPoint presentations need to be submitted to Lynanne DiFilippo (email@example.com) or Doreen Cantelmo (firstname.lastname@example.org) no later than Friday, August 1, 2014, and will be available to download at the beginning of the Workshop.
