‘An Evening of Jazz’ at Brookhaven Lab, March 5

UPTON, NY- The U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory will sponsor “An Evening of Jazz,” featuring the Oak Street Quartet, and the William Floyd High School Jazz Ensemble, on Tuesday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in the Laboratory’s Berkner Hall. The concert is open to the public, and a donation for tickets is suggested.

The Oak Street Quartet

Formed in 1999 by bassist Stephen Bennett, the Oak Street Quartet, better known as OSQ, performs a range of instrumental and vocal jazz, including swing, bop, contemporary, and pop-tune arrangements. OSQ performs regularly on Friday nights at the Elk Street Grille in Port Jefferson, and the group has recorded a CD of jazz standards. In addition to Bennett, the quartet includes saxophonist Chris Forte, pianist Bob Gelabert, and drummer Mike White, a senior chemist at Brookhaven Lab.

The William Floyd High School Jazz Ensemble is a 25-piece band that performs a repertoire of big band, swing, blues and contemporary funk electric music under the direction of Michael Cordaro. For the third consecutive year, William Floyd High School in 2001 was recognized as a GRAMMY Signature High School — an honor given to school districts nationwide that promote and preserve music education as a key part of the curriculum.
