Harpist Ruth Bennett in Concert at Brookhaven Lab, May 29

UPTON, NY — Ruth Bennett, a senior music performance major at the State University of New York at Potsdam, will give a concert at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory on Wednesday, May 29, at noon in the Laboratory’s Berkner Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 15 and over must bring a photo ID to be allowed on site.

Bennett, a resident of Center Moriches, Long Island, won the New York American String Teachers Association Senior Division Competition last November, and last summer tied for third place in the American Harp Society National Competition. She also won the Crane Concerto Competition and performed in the Aspen Music Festival.

Earlier this year, the touring Chamber Orchestra Kremlin changed their Potsdam concert program to include a work featuring Bennett, after hearing her perform at a workshop. Her Brookhaven program will explore the rich, but little-known literature of solo works for concert harp.

For more information on the concert, call 631 344-2345. The Laboratory is located on William Floyd Parkway (County Road 46), one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the Long Island Expressway.

The U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory conducts research in the physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences, as well as in energy technologies. Brookhaven also builds and operates major facilities available to university, industrial, and government scientists. The Laboratory is managed by Brookhaven Science Associates, a limited liability company founded by Stony Brook University and Battelle, a nonprofit applied science and technology organization.
