Trialkylammonio-Dodecaborates: Anions for Ionic Liquids with Potassium, Lithium and Proton as Cations

Abstract:

A new class of low-melting ionic liquids (IL) is described, which consists of N,N,N-trialkylammonio-undecahydrododecaborate(1-) as anion, with widely variable cations. The cations include common cations of conventional ILs such as tetraalkyl¬ammonium, N-alkylpyridinium, N-methyl-N'-alkylimidazolium. In addition, their salts with lithium, potassium, and proton cations are also ILs. Radiolysis studies indicate that the anions do not react with solvated electrons.
