Abstract:
The Brookhaven National Laboratory Laser-Electron Accelerator Facility (LEAF) is based on a 3.5cell, radio-frequency photocathode electron gun that produces 9 MeV electron bunches on the order of 5 picoseconds long. An intrinsic feature of the facility is the availability of additional laser pulses synchronised with the electron beam, which enable picosecond pulseprobe and femtosecond pulsepumpprobe transient absorption experiments to be performed on radiolytically-generated reactive chemical species.
