COVID Testing Sites in Nassau/Suffolk Counties
To assist Lab employees, the Lab’s Occupational Medicine Clinic has identified several walk-in centers that will conduct a COVID-19 test (PCR) to detect active infections. Some also have the capability to test for IgG antibodies* starting several weeks after the infection. Aetna is waiving member cost-sharing for COVID-19 diagnostic testing†.
If you would like to be tested for COVID‐19, the New York State Department of Health has an excellent searchable locator for COVID testing sites near you: The site is called "FIND A TEST SITE" and it provides a map with COVID‐19 test sites near any address or zip code.

Question on out-of-pocket charges: Will I
experience any out-of-pocket costs for COVID-19 testing?
Answer: A
number of insurers have waived co-pays for COVID-19 testing, and the
federal CARES act supports, in most cases, COVID-19 testing with no
cost-sharing with the individual being tested.
- Aetna is waiving member cost-sharing (such as copays) for COVID-19 testing. See details.
- Rite Aid and CVS offer testing at some of their locations and have also indicated there will be no charge to the individual being tested.
To be on the safe side regarding out-of-pocket costs, we recommend you check with your insurer or inquire when you call a testing site to set up an appointment or when you go for testing.
*As with other coronaviruses, it appears that after initial infection, the typical patient will see symptom onset around day five, on aveage, with a range of 2-14 days, and will begin to develop IgM antibodies around eight days post-infection and IgG antibodies around two to four weeks post-infection.

†Aetna is waiving member cost-sharing for diagnostic testing related to COVID-19. This policy covers the cost of a physician-ordered test and the office, clinic, or emergency room visit that results in the administration of or order for a COVID-19 test. The test can be done by any approved laboratory. This member cost-sharing waiver applies to all Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid lines of business. The policy aligns with new Families First legislation and regulations requiring all health plans to provide coverage of COVID-19 testing without cost share. The requirement also applies to self-insured plans. Per guidance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Department of Labor and the Department of the Treasury, all Commercial and Medicaid plans must cover serological (antibody) testing with no cost-sharing.
