Efficient Data Access for Distributed Computing at RHIC

The Grand Challenge project has developed an optimizing storage access software system that was prototyped at RHIC. It is currently undergoing integration with the STAR experiment. The system coordinates the staging of "bundles" of files from the HPSS tape system for the application software in the distributed computing environment. The Grand Challenge Architecture use CORBA interfaces as a communication tool for distributed processes. Another project - NOVA (Networked Object-based enVironment for Analysis) - is developing distributed object oriented physics analysis components, easily adaptable to different experiments. A useful set of tools has been developed, tested and deployed in prototype and production settings.
