Judy Spencer

Complance Officer

I started at Brookhaven about eight months ago and it’s been one of my best career moves. My career path began at Savannah River Site in South Carolina where I gained skills which would ultimately help me to contribute to the Lab’s success in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. I have enjoyed a diverse career path and have previously worked in administrative, public affairs and human resources roles which gave me a great appreciation and understanding of working in the Department of Energy Contractor environment. I hope to bring those experiences to Brookhaven to assist with our DEI efforts in the Lab and surrounding community.

In 2005 I was afforded an opportunity to enter the world of Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity. Over the years I have been amazed at the changes in employment law and I’m intrigued by the challenges of using data to make informed business decisions through statistical analysis. I also enjoy training and educating others about DEI topics. I work diligently to ensure all employees enjoy a respectful workplace free from harassment and discrimination. The most challenging aspect of my job is conducting effective internal investigations and making recommendations for amicable solutions that allow for fair and equitable treatment for all parties.

I believe it takes everyone’s collective contributions to continue to move the Lab forward in a positive way. Building relationships is very important to me because it helps me understand more about everyone and their work, but mostly how we can work together to contribute to the Lab’s success.
