“A Day in the Life of the Peconic Estuary” was the second of three days of field study that introduced nearly 2,000 students to techniques used to study water and other environmental issues on three of Long Island’s four major river systems.

Farmingdale High School edged out 15 other teams to take top honors at the U.S. Department of Energy Regional Science Bowl held at the Lab on January 31. The team will compete in the National Finals in Washington, D.C. in April.

One hundred students representing 13 middle schools from Long Island will participate in a Regional Science Bowl competition, which consists of two exciting contests: a fast-paced question-and-answer tournament designed to test students' knowledge in general, life, energy, earth and space sciences and mathematics and a lithium-ion battery-powered car competition that challenges students to design, build, and race model cars.
