Each year since 1991, Brookhaven National Laboratory has hosted the Long Island regional competition for the National Science Bowl. All high school students who attend school on Long Island are eligible. Entries of teams will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis until all available slots in the competition are filled.
The teams are comprised of five students(one of which is an alternate) and a teacher who serves as an advisor and coach. The competition consists of a round robin followed by a double elimination final. The questions are multiple choice and short answer in the categories of chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, astronomy, and general, earth, and computer science.
PLEASE NOTE: Photos will be taken and may be used in publications and on the web.
2017 HS Science Bowl Agenda - TBD
9-12 grade students
Prizes are awarded to the top four teams, and the winning team is invited to participate in the National Science Bowl. All students who participate will receive a Certificate of Participation. The National Science Bowl web site provides information for students, coaches, and volunteers.
Teams are selected on first-come, first-serve basis. Teams may not change student participants after submittal. A new registration will need to be submitted and will then go back into the queue for selection.
Please see National registration for deadline dates and rules for registering more than one team.
We will keep an alternate list until the day before the competition, in case of drop outs.
To apply to the Regional Science Bowl at BNL, a coach must fill out the on-line registration form. Information will be sent to Science Department Chairs in October. On-line registration opens October 3, 2016 at 12 noon EST.
