Students work together to observe and extract DNA from E. coli cells. Students learn the differences between Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells. They also learn that DNA is the genetic material in living organisms that determines an organism’s traits. Using processes such as precipitation and spooling, they will independently extract DNA from their samples.
