CFNS Seminar

"Phase-space distributions and spin/orbital structure of the nucleon"

Presented by Barbara Pasquini, INFN/University of Pavia

Thursday, July 26, 2018, 4:00 pm — Building 510, CFNS Seminar Room 2-38

I will review the concept of generalized transverse momentum dependent parton distributions and Wigner distributions, which combine the features of transverse-momentum dependent parton distributions and generalized parton distributions. Focusing on the four-dimensional transverse phase-space, I will identify the basic multipole structures associated with the Wigner distributions, providing a transparent interpretation of the spin-spin and spin-orbit correlations of quarks and nucleon encoded in these functions. I will show results for the quark Wigner functions both in in the T-even and T-odd sector, introducing a convenient representation that allows one to visualize simultaneously the multipole structures in both thetransverse-position and transverse-momentum spaces.
