    Did you know that about 97% of the particle accelerators in use world wide are not used for research? Particle accelerators are used in a wide range of applications, from basic and applied research to industrial processing, security and medicine. From the small cathode ray tube to the colossal particle colliders, their making involves different fields of science and technology that motivates interdisciplinary collaboration. This talk will provide an introduction to particle accelerators and their applications, with focus on particle colliders and accelerators for cancer treatment, and delve on how particle accelerators became part of the professional journey of the speaker.
